Understanding diabetes is essential to effectively managing the disease. That's why Saint Joseph Hospital’s Diabetes Education Program has a health care team of registered nurses and a registered dietician who work with physicians and patients to ensure they receive important knowledge and skills to successfully manage this condition.
Certified Diabetes Educators
All of Saint Joseph Hospital’s primary diabetes educators are certified diabetes educators (CDE), having completed extensive education and experiential training.
Additionally, our dietitian is also certified as an Insulin Pump Trainer.
Diabetes Education
Diabetes education ranges from meal planning and daily care to medication and exercise. An emphasis is placed on cause, symptoms, treatment and prevention.
The diabetes education team develops an individualized program based on every patient's medical and educational needs, taking into account behavioral goals. Program topics include:

- Blood Glucose Monitoring
- Medical Nutrition Therapy
- Management During Pregnancy

American Diabetes Association Recognition
Saint Joseph Hospital's Diabetes Education Program has been awarded Recognition by the American Diabetes Association in accordance with the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education Programs.
