2010 Clinical Achievements
Saint Joseph Hospital ranked among the top 5 percent of U.S. hospitals for overall clinical quality, according to the 8th annual HealthGrades® Hospital Quality and Clinical Excellence Study.
For the sixth time, the hospital received the HealthGrades Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence™ Award, one of only 269 hospitals in the nation, 22 in Illinois, and 7 in Chicago to earn this distinction.

Why is the study important?
HealthGrades independently and objectively rated the quality of care for 26 procedures and diagnoses at nearly every hospital in the country - ranging from bypass surgery to knee replacement to heart attack treatment.
The hospitals in the top 5 percent demonstrated patient outcomes that far exceeded those of other hospitals. Patients admitted to these hospitals had risk-adjusted mortality rates that were, on average 29 percent lower than all other hospitals. Risk-adjusted complication rates were, on average 9 percent lower than all other hospitals.

2010 Pulmonary Care Excellence Award
Saint Joseph Hospital ranked among the top 10 percent of U.S. hospitals for pulmonary services, according to the 12th annual HealthGrades® Hospital Quality in America Study.

For the first time ever, the hospital received the 2010 Pulmonary Care Excellence Award, one of only 31 hospitals in Illinois and 10 in Chicago to earn this distinction.
For 2010, Saint Joseph Hospital also received five-star ratings, the highest level, in eight clinical areas - bowel obstruction, cholecystectomy (gall bladder removal), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (lung disease), heart failure, hip fracture repair, pneumonia, sepsis and treatment of stroke.

Also this year, Saint Joseph was ranked among the top 5 percent of U.S. hospitals for quality patient outcomes in women's health care, according to the Sixth Annual HealthGrades Women's Health in American Hospitals study. Saint Joseph was one of 16 hospitals in Illinois to receive this distinction.
